Summer is here! Maybe not so impressive to many, but when you live in northwestern Wisconsin you understand that weather is like a roulette wheel and snowfall in the same week as eighty degree weather is not impossible! One of my favorite things about summer is all the amazing fresh veggies! What better way to enjoy the veggies than raw with a tasty dip. Over the years I’ve tried dozens of dips, both store bought and homemade. Most have fallen short of my expectations: poor taste, subpar ingredients (have you read those labels, gross!), massive price requiring the sale of a kidney, or excessive time needed to find and mesh ingredients in homemade versions.
A few years ago when I received this 5 minute dip recipe, I truly had no idea what an amazing find it was. Five minutes plus six ingredients equals a dip of unmatched tastiness and price.
Fast forward to now and I’ve found that anytime I need to bring food to a potluck or fellowship time after church, more often than not I chop up a few veggies and whip up a batch (or two) of this 5 minute dip and I am set for a beautiful, tasty, and healthy rave worthy appetizer. I can’t remember an event where I haven’t had at least one person ask for this recipe after trying this awesome dip!
My toddler absolutely loves chowing down on a pile of carrots when available with this dip. Typically he won’t touch raw vegetables with a ten foot pole otherwise.
This 5 minute dip is so simple, only six ingredients, I had it memorized in a snap and I’m guessing you will too. Just remember ONE for your measurements (one cup and one tablespoon) and you’re set!
– 1 cup Mayo
– 1 cup Sour Cream
– 1 Tbs dried Parsley
– 1 Tbs Season Salt
– 1 Tbs dried Dill Weed
– 1 Tbs dried Onion Flakes
– Mixing bowl, spatula, measuring cup and spoon
Find a nice one quart bowl and silicone spatula and quick mix your measured mayo and sour cream together. Then blend in your parsley, dill, season salt, and onion flakes. Mix well, cover and place in the fridge preferably for a couple of hours to a day or more, so the flavors blend and the onion flakes are softened.
That’s it!
Can it get any easier than that?
I personally prefer using homemade mayo in my recipes, but feel free to use your favorite brand (just don’t desecrate this dip by using Miracle Whip, the food gods will haunt you forever!) Also, I have often used light sour cream or plain Greek yogurt instead of the regular sour cream and it turns out just as tasty.
As to the seasonings, being a little generous with everything (except the Season Salt) is always an ok thing. If you like things less salty start with a scant tablespoon of Season Salt and then add to taste.
Now that you know the best 5 minute veggie dip recipe you are set to rock any barbeque, potluck or snack time thrown your way. I’d love to hear you thoughts on this recipe. Leave me a comment.
