We are super excited to share this CBD FAQ post with you all and it’s something that has been months in the making! Why are we excited?! Because CBD oil has literally changed Caylin and my lives (less anxiety, more sleep, more patience, more energy…and so much more!).
We will be addressing some of the most frequently asked questions today so we can eliminate some of the confusion right off the bat!
CBD FAQ #1: What does CBD stand for?
CBD stands for cannabidiolˌ(kan-ə-bə-ˈdī-ˌȯl) which is a cannabis compound.
CBD FAQ #2: Is CBD the same thing as marijuana?
Nope! It’s different. The analogy that is often used is “marijuana is to CBD as oranges are to lemons”. CBD and marijuana both come from cannabis plants. However, hemp has very little THC while marijuana plants are bred for high amounts of THC. This is why CBD is extracted from hemp plants.
Another interesting thing to note is that marijuana plants are predominately female while hemp plants are predominately male.
CBD FAQ #3: Can you get high from CBD?
Nope! Most CBD does have trace amounts of THC (the component in marijuana that makes you high) but you would have to drink a ridiculous amount of oil to have any sort of “buzz”. So sure, if you had like 100 bottles of CBD oil and drank the all at the same time, I suppose you could get a little buzz…but you get the picture.
Hemp (the plant CBD is extracted from) can only contain up to 0.3% THC in order to legally be classified as hemp. Meanwhile, it’s cousin marijuana contains up to 30% THC. So as you can see, these two plants are very different!
CBD FAQ #4: What form does CBD come in?
There are many ways people consume CBD but one of the most effective ways is to use the CBD oil drops sublingually (or under the tongue). Taking the oil in this manner allows the CBD to enter the bloodstream while bypassing the digestive system in order to interact with your endocannabinoid system.
CBD also comes in lotion form, gummies, coffee, pills, etc. However, as we previously said, the most effective way to manage a variety of health concerns is to use the oil. However, if you’re managing pain or are suffering from skin issues, the topical lotions can be a great option too!
CBD FAQ#5: Endocannabinoid system? What the heck is that?
Ok, so this isn’t really a FAQ but because we used the term, we need to briefly explain it! We will try our hardest to not go all “science geek” on you!
Everybody has what is called an endocannabinoid system in their body that is constantly making cannabinoids. These cannabinoids are similar to those found in CBD and help regulate our body. Our endocannabinoid system helps balance our body and is present in tissue all throughout our body. This is why CBD has such a large variety of health benefits, because it’s assisting in balancing and regulating things such as the brain, organs, musculoskeletal problems, hormones, inflammatory concerns, and immune issues.
CBD FAQ #6: What is the suggested dose for CBD Oil?
CBD oil is not a drug so you will not find dose instructions on the package. That being said, we have a few tips for you! Start out slow…take around 5 drops sublingually (under your tongue) two times per day. Hold it under your tongue for 30-60 seconds before swallowing so that it has time to absorb. Every few days increase the amount of drops you consume until you start to see the results you are hoping for! Serving size is 20 drops 2 times per day, so continue up to that point if desired.
CBD FAQ#7: Are there side effects?
Luckily side effects are rare! I (Kelsey) respond negatively to just about every medication I take. In fact, I can’t even take cold medicine without a myriad of negative side effects. So I was slightly anxious about trying CBD oil…but after months of taking it, I still haven’t experienced a single negative side effect!
That being said, CDB is helping our body regulate and with that, can come some “detox”. Symptoms can include minor body aches, dizziness, nausea, or increased thirst.
If this happens to you, simply slow down on the amount you are consuming for a period of time and drink more water. This is actually a good sign that the CBD is working so be patient and stick it out! But as always, this is not medical advice so if you have concerns, talk to your doctor.
Again, these side effects are rare but it’s always good to be aware!
CBD FAQ #8: Is CBD legal?
YES! CBD is legal in all 50 states. CBD is derived from hemp, not marijuana which makes it legal. In fact, hemp is used to make paper, plastic, clothes, and has been used for centuries! Did you know the Declaration of Independence was even written on hemp?
